Benchmark: Top denial rates by region, 2006-2007
Effective Mar 16, 2009
Published Mar 16, 2009
This chart shows the regions with the highest Medicare denial rates in 2007 and compares it with their 2006 rates. The regions are geographic practice cost index (GPCI) locations; GPCIs that billed less than 1 million claims annually were excluded from analysis. The percentage figures above the bars indicate the percent change in denial rates from 2006 to 2007. The overall trend is alarming: 80% of these GPCI regions, which already had high denial rates in 2006, saw increased denials in 2007.
