Be on the lookout, fraudsters: The federal governent is bearing down hard on misappropriated Medicare funds. A new report shows that the Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control Program (HCFAC), combining efforts of HHS and the Department of Justice (DOJ), returned $1.7 billion to the Medicare Trust Fund in 2016.
The deadline for Medicare providers to make their last attestation for meaningful use before the program goes away has been moved back from Feb. 28 to March 13 at 11:59 pm Pacific time, or 3:00 am March 14 Eastern time.
The Senate Finance Committee will hold a vote Jan. 31 to decide whether Rep. Tom Price, R.-Ga., will have a chance to oversee the multibillion-dollar budget of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Today’s “courtesy” hearing on the nomination of Rep. Tom Price, R.-Ga., to be secretary of HHS was not especially courteous, as some Democrats slammed the nominee on his stock purchases and his failure to commit to preserving key elements of Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
