The proposed ICD-10 code changes — released with the FY2026 Hospital Inpatient PPS (IPPS) proposed rule on April 11 — include a new code for type 2 diabetes mellitus in remission, more than 100 new codes to capture non-pressure chronic ulcers in various stages as well as new codes for malignant inflammatory neoplasms. 
 
The National Center for Health Statistics/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in a memo posted to the website that there will not be a Spring Coordination and Maintenance Committee meeting.
 
The CDC did not release any new codes to take effect April 1 this year, however you will find some noteworthy changes coming to the guidelines, including the addition of two new guidelines for obesity codes found under category E66 (Overweight and Obesity).
 
Check out the ICD-10-CM changes that will go into effect April 1, 2025. The CDC did not release any new codes, but you should review the ICD-10-CM Tabular List of Diseases and Injuries 2025 Addenda April Update with your staff before April 1.
 
Effective Oct. 1, coders will now have a way to capture a post-acute encounter for sepsis aftercare with the new code Z51.A (Encounter for sepsis aftercare).
 
This code, which was one of the 252 codes proposed earlier this year, was finalized as part of the FY2025 ICD-10 final code update — released July 3 by CMS along with the guidelines.
